Toddling and Beyond

Boy writing at Little Houghton Day NurseryWe liaise with teachers from the local primary schools to ensure that children are well prepared for the next stage in their education. Our staff are professionally-trained so that they are able to assess each individual child in seven different areas of learning and then help them to progress.

Just like schools, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework, and structure all our learning experiences by offering children the opportunity to play with a wide variety of activities.

Child writing her name at Little Houghton Day NurseryWe provide lots of exciting resources including our lovely tall play loft and “Dressing-up Cube”. These run alongside the more familiar nursery stock such as sand and water play, the creative corner and computer games. In fact, I.T. plays a big role in nursery life, with all sorts of gadgets including programmable robots, microscopes, microphones and torches.

We encourage outdoor play all year round, providing resources for the children to make their own dens. They also love to experiment with large-scale household items such as guttering for the toy cars to race down and paint rollers to apply water to walls. Our giant sandpit proves popular all year round.
